Which kind of dental wax do you prefer and why?

I was given the regular dental wax when I got my braces Monday but thought about buying some of the silicon stuff instead. I know there are pros and cons of both and it is usually personal preference but which do you use/like?

I prefer the orthosil. (silicone) because when it is on it is less noticable and it is smoother! Regular wax feels like it sticks to the inside of my cheek.

I hope that I helped somehow!!! I would see if your orthodontist has some orthosil and try it before I invested in it!

I was one of those people that ended up needing wax off and on all through treatment and I liked GUM mint flavored wax best. It "stuck" well and the minty flavor kept me from swallowing it if I forgot to take it off before eating something.

I tried the silicone "wax" a few times and could never get it to stay put no matter how dry the brackets were. Maybe I had a bad batch or something :?

I liked orthosil. I was using a lot of wax so I bought a box of 50 packets over the web from a dental supply house. It was very inexpensive that way. I gave packets to friends. If I dried the spot off and molded the orthosil a little, it would stick quite a while, sometimes through meals.

Paraffin was crumbly for me and it was a constant struggle to keep it applied through the day. And it wouldn't stay in place at night, so I got sores no matter how fastidious I was during the day.

I was given both silicone and 'regular' wax 3 days ago, and have not even opened the silicone package. I have had no problems with the regular wax, so I figure why fix something that's not broken? I have heard good things about the silicone, so maybe I'll give it a shot one day. But for now, I'm a regular wax girl! :D It really boils down to personal preference, and finding something that works for you! Good luck!

I use the GUM mint wax as well - mostly because it's all I can find in Duane Reade. It works fine, so I have no need to search for another kind.

Although, I probably should invest in a larger quantity like JTT.

I also have the GUM mint wax. It sticks just fine. I would like to try the silicone but I haven’t come across any in the stores yet. I’ll keep looking but for now the regular wax is working. I only use it when I’m in the house because I don’t like the way it looks even if I only use a little bit.
