A few questions...

#1 Post by LeahRuth »

A few things have been concerning my about my braces. I don't get a chance to bring it up at the Ortho, as they try and get you in and out of there as fast as possible  I'll try to bring it up at my adjustment next week but in the meantime I thought I'd ask all of you (:

1. Three of my upper teeth make crackling noises if I put pressure on them. At first I was concerned that my brackets were coming loose, but they seem to be stuck on there. Just wondering if it's normal for my teeth to become loose enough to wiggle around and make creepy noises. I'm the type to have nightmares where all my teeth fall out!

2. At the moment my molars are touching, but I have a very deep bite and a severe overbite that I'll need surgery for. I'm concerned that when my lower jaw is extended forward, my molars won't be able to reach each other. When I look in the mirror and bring my lower jaw forward, none of my molars are touching. Can braces lengthen my molars so that they can touch when I bite down? I have short teeth :(

Sorry if these questions are a bit stupid, I'm a worrier by nature.

my teeth sometime click too. I wouldnt worry about that, its just that they have room to move around in your gums.

I also have the same problem (deep bite and overbite) and I notice my molars not touching when i bring my jaw forward too, but I am pretty sure that will all be corrected.. not sure how, but you could ask your ortho, or try googling it? At this point I am not worried. I trust my ortho and that things will all work out in the end.

I had the exact same problem which I just noticed today - braces on for one month. I also thought the brackets were coming off, but it seems to be the actual (loose) teeth moving around in the wire/ligature. Seems to only be affecting two of my teeth.

Three of my front teeth are crackling like that. It's just part of the loosening/movement process, and totally normal.

Thanks for the reassurance about my crackling teeth! I'll try and find a moment to ask the ortho how my teeth will all fit together after my bite has been fixed.

As far as you question 2, my OD was able to use a goofy wire configuration and pull my molars up some so they were lengthened.

I can't answer your second question, but the clicking of your loose teeth is normal. I actually like it when my teeth click - it means they are moving closer to where they should be. It seems that only my front teeth click - my ortho is in the process of moving the ones on the side and I can see they are moving but alas there's no clicking.

My orthodontist said that he would use "vertical elastics" to bring my molars down so that they will be touching. I hope that helps.

Wow thanks for even more replies!

The teeth clicking feels really gross, but I won't worry about it anymore.
My next adjustment is on Monday, I'll ask about when they'll start working on my bite.

Thanks again!
