Hi Everyone!
I thought I would introduce myself to the forum. I'm 28 and just got my top braces on January 14 (yesterday). So far they are annoying and slightly uncomfortable but not really painful. I got a really terrible headache this morning from them that has continued throughout the day. I'm hoping that this is a one time occurrence. I have self-ligating braces and will hopefully only have to wear them for 2 years. I look forward to talking to people that are going through or have gone through this as an adult!

Welcome aboard!!
I seem to wake up with a lot of headaches, as well. Not sure what I'm doing at night, but I do stock up on Excedrin, LOL.
When do you get your bottoms put on?

Welcome to the gang. Your brace day is my birthday.

I have had mine for a full week today. I love them.

Not in any pain. I just feel the pressure (which I like) and it hurts when I eat but it seems to be getting a little better. Hope your headache doesn't continue.

Welcome,
randirocks!
I got my Clarity SL (upper) and Damon Q (lower) self-ligating braces on 1/12, and am still experiencing some pressure and pain (mostly while eating at this point). I too have had some intense headaches. I am not sure of the cause, but think it's just the overall adjustment to having the hardware in, and all the changes that are happening! I keep Advil/Tylenol on hand, and am slowly getting adjusted, nearly a week later. I hope things continue to improve for you, and look forward to hearing about your progress! Good luck!

The pain has mostly subsided at this point and the headaches seemed to be a one day thing thank goodness. I'm still not sure when my bottom brackets are going on. I had a tooth pulled that they are using space from so I would imagine that the bottom teeth will move much more quickly than the top teeth.
I wish someone would have told me that braces feel exactly like the pain caused from being hit in the face by a ball. I would have had a frame of reference then!
I'm able to eat fairly normally though the knife and fork are still my friends and biting things with my front teeth is still painful. Brushing today has been much easier. I seriously am in love with my Waterpik and I'm about to buy a portable version to have on hands at all times.
Wax is also still my best friend. I can go for longer periods without it but if I talk, the right side of my wire skewers my cheek. It's not so much painful as it is disgusting. Something to be said about pulling your cheek off of a wire skewer.
Overall, it's not as bad as I'd prepared myself for...Hooray!

Hi everyone!
I'm 21, female and i've been braced since 16th December! I've got metal brackets, top and longer and i'm having treatment in the future for a severe 10mm overbite!
I'm also having my treatment on the NHS! so i'll let you know how that goes!
I've been contemplating getting a waterpik, is it really worth it? I'm looking at getting the waterpik ultra, the portable one that comes with orthodontic tips... any advice?
