I sound like a drunk man trying to talk. I am a mortgage loan officer and talk to people constantly. However, after a few minutes of talking I sound like my tongue is 6 inches thick. Will this get any better? I try to keep bottled water in my office because my mouth seems to stay dry when I talk a lot but I don't think it helps with the thick tongued lisp.

It gets better! I had to give a bunch of presentations about two weeks after getting my braces and I felt like I had peanut butter in my mouth. It was terrible, especially longer ones! But it got better. Now I barely notice them. Good luck!

Meeksfor3, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling!
I'm on day 10, and find that my mouth is still quite dry, and I have to keep water on hand at all times. I haven't noticed a lisp per se, but do feel like my speech has been affected. I am a mortgage loan processor
so I know all about talking to people all day long! I'm hoping things begin to improve for you -- hang in there!

Hi,
I remember that feeling. For me, it took about 7 days for the slurred speech to go away. What might come next is the dry mouth/too much saliva mouth...try some breathsavers to get through this phase.
Good luck.

Be happy that you only have the braces. I had a palatal expander on top of that. Talk about having a 6 inch thick tongue w/peanut butter and taffy! Honestly, it will get better. Just think of the end product!!! I only have 1 month left to go for me!!! YIPPEE!!!
