Teeth move overnight and then move back everyday!?

#1 Post by kimberly »

I have had my braces on for almost 4 wks. When I wake up in the morning my teeth have moved into an improved position and then within about 5 hrs. later they move back........why? I was thinking maybe my archwire was to flexable to hold them? Help!

Wow, you can see your teeth moving back and forth throughout the day? Are you sure you aren't just imagining it? Teeth don't move that fast...

I'm not imagining it......In the morning they are in one position which I would say an improved position and after I've been awake for about 3-5 hours they move back in a different position. I think its because when I'm awake I am biting down, chewing etc. and the wire is to weak to hold them in place. I guess I will see when I get my next adjustment what happens.

Maybe you could take a picture in the morning and one again when you think they've moved then post them for us to see.

Mine do the same only I have elastics. In the morning my teeth meet up, but within an hour I go back to having an underbite!

Jewels,
Thank you for answering! I'm going to just come to the decision that when asleep your totally relaxed, and when awake I start to use my teeth by biting down on them etc. and that causes them to move back. I also believe that when they put a stronger wire in it will hold them better. My teeth are real loose right now.

The same would happen to me. I would try not to close my mouth for a lot of the day to try to prevent it....not really possible.
Don't worry - they'll move eventually.

I heard this can happen and I notice the same thing with my teeth.. one day the gaps look nearly closed.. the next they are open again. it's really weird and it drives me bananas!!! i'm so sick of being in braces, and it's been only 13 months. i have 11 left to go!
