ALF Appliance before Braces

#1 Post by Annie79 »

Anybody had to have one? I have to have one for 1 year, then braces for one year. It will help to widen a narrow upper arch, with a thin wire that runs along the roof of your mouth using light pressure. I am on day 4 and the pressure is alot more then I expected. Anyone from Canada use one..there is limited info on the web.

I've not heard of an ALF appliance or seen one on this forum. I have a Schwartz expander now (a removable, adjustable by me, plastic and metal appliance that covers the entire roof of my mouth and has wires between most of my upper teeth) and it seems like most people on the forum have or have had a Haas type expander that is cemented onto the back 2 molars and they have to expand it with a key. I asked a question about my Schwartz about a month ago and nobody replied which made me feel like I was the only person here with on of these. If you get that here, don't worry, there is still alot of information and support. I'm sure you will do well with your expander and I hope that you upper palate expands faster than 1 year. Mine seems to be expanding twice as fast as the Orthodontist projected. He even told me to slow down on my adjustments. Good luck.
