Getting Braced March 24th for Impacted Canine!

#1 Post by Vieve25 »

Hi All!
I went in for my second consult this morning to go over my records. I am getting my spacers in March 22nd and top ceramic braces on March 24th. Ortho is putting in a stabilizing wire behind my bottom teeth that anchors into my molars because I have to much of an overbite to have the bottom braces put on yet. After my overbite subsides a bit I will be getting metal on the lowers. After a few months( once Ortho has created enough room) I will be going in for my impacted canine extraction and exposure (only the left upper is impacted). If the adult canine cooperated and is moveable, the Ortho thinks I will have to get (premolar?) also extracted to make enough room for the adult canine to come in to place. Estimated time in braces is 2 1/2 to 3 years. My Aunt just went through SARP surgery and when I came home there was a package in the mail for me and SHE BOUGHT AND SENT ME MY FIRST DENTAKIT! She lives in CT and I am in MA so I got a kick out of it but it also got me a bit excited!! that was very sweet of her. She is a 'lurker' on this site she said - she never made an account on ArchWired. So theres my news of the day! I am starting to get cold feet about it but I know I have to do it.... I also have been a stay at home Mom for a year and had no ambiton of going back to work but my previous job offered me a position part time and I accepted it - so just when I thought I could hide myself from the public I am actually going to be in peoples faces again! haha! Im a bit nervous but it will be worth it... ta ta for now!!! thanks for listening!

@Vieve25 - I enjoy reading your story. Your treatment plan sure is detailed. My dentist only looked at my x-rays, asked me what I wanted to fix, and said "18-24 months" - I have no insight into all of details.

Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow!
We look forward to seeing the results.

My Braces ARE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! And wow, what a detailed and long process it was this morning! and I only got the uppers on and a lower space maintainer! I have Clarity Unitek on the uppers with a silver wire and I have a little spring thing going across the baby canine that will be getting pulled in a few months! - the ceramics really match my teeth and I am SO HAPPY that I went with ceramics. I was REALLY having a hard time deciding between metals and ceramics. They seem VERY discreet. I am not in any pain - I just feel pressure - and I am so glad to have those damn spacers out! Those were just annoying as all get out. They put on clear ligs and next time will do the wire ties. so far so good! They just feel extremely HUGE and BULKY in my mouth/under my lip but dont LOOK that way. I realized that since people only take close up pics of their mouth on here and not there whole face that the pics make the brackets look bigger than they look when you are seeing a whole face. So, Im happy I guess! I ate some egg salad when I got home and brushed right after and I am feelin fine! I know I said I would post pics and I will in a few hours - I need my Hubby to do the honors and take some up close mouth pics for me! Talk to ya all later!! glad I didnt chicken out!....

Congrats! I felt the same way, I just had braces thrown on 2 weeks ago. When I first closed my mouth I told the ortho that I felt like I had those hillbilly teeth in......now 13 days later I only really notice them when I say certain words.

I only had my sapcers in for 2 days - an even my ortho was surprised that the receptionist scheduled my brace day so close to me getting my spacers... so my back teeth were still pretty tight togetehr and made it a bit difficult for them to get the metal band around my teeth - but they did and all is well. I really dont know what I would have done about those spacers if I had to keep them in longer - I would have ripped them out! And no one told me that those things smell FOUL when they take them out - I was embarrassed but so I had to speak up and say "oh my gosh is that my spacers that smell like that!?" and she said "yeah - dont worry everyones do that because food particles get stuck under them" UGH! gross!

^they smell bad when they come out? I brush twice a day, use Listerine in the morning and Act at night, and floss at night, too...and they'll still smell? Lovely!

hi, congrats on getting braces! im glad to hear that you dont have any horror stories about brace-day, and that you're coping well with them. when is your next appointment?

I go in tomorrow to have my braces put on, and i'm v excited! i had spacers 3 weeks ago for a week and then molar bands were put in 2 weeks ago. I also have an overbite but no impacted canine, and i'll be having surgery, but will be good to track your progress compared to mine! You too DrBlur, we can all race haha!

^yeah, race

Next week a few days before I get my bands I have my consultation with the oral surgeon (after I get the braces and expander put in, I'm having something done to "loosen" my palate so the expander can work)...it's all happening so fast, but not quite fast enough (I think I'd be OK if I didn't have to have these bloody spacers in another week!)

Let me tell you how much of a RELIEF it is to get the spacers OUT - the breaces feel WAYYY WAYYY better than the spacers!

I am having a little bit of pressure pain but its still bearable and nothing Advil isnt fixing. I cant believe I have braces on - they feel HUGE to me but when I look in the mirror they arent. My husband and sister in law think they look awesome and they said they cant even tell I have them unless they TRY and notice them. Also I sent a pic on my cell phone to all my fam and friends and they all responded with "I cant see anything!" haha! I love how people make me feel better!!! hehehe!

Hi all! Ok so today is day 3 with my braces and lower LA! I am having NO PROBLEMS what so ever (except for eating obviously). Any pressure pain is relieved with 2 advil, and I LOVE MY BRACES!!!! My teeth are already MOVING!!!! so amazing! I am having a hard time uploading pictures on here - I will keep trying this morning and if I cant I'll have to have the Hubs do it this afternoon. I love love love my braces - I cant believe how bulky they felt the 1st day and i thought theres no way Id get used to that feeling of them under my lip and yesterday that feeling was gone!!!! I have been eating egg salad, chicken salad, puddings, yogurt, sherbert, and canned fruit ocean and I shared pulled pork out of the crockpot last night with the Hubs! I notice my front teeth are more sensitive than the others and Im not willing to bite on to anything with them as it is still a bit uncomfortbale to do so...but thats it! Lovin the fact that Im on the way to a beautiful smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for reading!! I'll be posting pics (soon I hope!)
