overjet questions and estimate

hi..
i wanna know 3 things
1. that's the "accepted" overjet? how big? 1mm, 2mm?

2. how long it will take (approximatively) to fix a 4-5mm overjet with elastics? how many months? (my teeth are straight now, almost 8 months in braces. i had no overjet at start, but i have now)
it needs to be reduced to a 0mm overjet, or 1-2mm overjet is allowed?

3. let's say... what could happen to a person that finishes the treatment earlier, remains with an overjet like 4mm, wears his retainer like it should. what can happen?
(not planning to do that, just wanna know)
thanks

i think an overjet of 0-2 mm is considered a normal amount

not sure how long it takes to correct

usually there is a little bit of relapse after taking off braces

I'm glad you posted this.. b/c I had the same question before and I don't think anybody answered. Maybe some of the orthos that come here sometimes can answer? I have an overjet too, which I too didn't have before I started. My bottoms have been retracted and now I have my tops to be retracted and right now I have a pretty big overjet.. I think it's about 7-8 mm! Yikes..
