Why would my ortho want to see me so soon?

#1 Post by fluffybottom »

I had an adjustment yesterday. We are in the finally tweaking phase (however long that lasts; I asked my ortho how much time I have left and she said 'not too much longer' but I don't know if her idea of 'not too much longer' and my idea of 'not too much longer' are the same, haha).

Anyway, she asked me about what things I would like her to take care of and I pointed out two things:

1. black triangles in my lower arch
2. my smiles seems tilted to one side, with more of my gums showing on one side than the other.

To address my first want, she did some IPR on my front four -- top and bottom -- and put an energy chain on my lower arch. For my second concern, she said the my jaw is a bit canted but she thinks she can do some things that will make my smile look more even. I'm doing SureSmile so she is adjusting the computer model of my teeth and they will send her a new wire in about 4 weeks.

To be on the safe side, we scheduled my next adjustment at 5 weeks. However, today, I got a voicemail from one of her assistants saying that the doctor had called in (she isn't in the office on Fridays) and said that she had been looking over my file some more and wants to see me in two weeks (in addition to my already scheduled 5 week appointment). This kind of freaked me out a bit and makes me worried that something is wrong. When I called back, I asked the assistant why she changed her mind and wants to see me sooner rather than later; she didn't know but said she'd find out and call me on Monday so I don't spend the next two weeks stressing out about it.

Me: I'm afraid that she's going to tell me 'ALL YOUR TEETH ARE GOING TO FALL OUT!'
Asst: *laughs* No, no. If it was something serious, she'd ask that you come back in right away. Anyway, how's April 1st? Are you available that day?
Me: .... April 1st.
Asst: Hm? Oh! April Fools Day!
Me: See! You guys ARE planning on telling me that all my teeth are falling out. So mean!

So yeah, I'm going in on April 1st and hopefully the assistant will call me back on Monday and let me know what's up.

But in the meantime, let's speculate!

Informal Poll: Why do they need to see me in two weeks instead of just waiting for the five week appointment?

a. All your teeth are going to fall out.
b. ALL YOUR TEETH ARE GOING TO FALL OUT!!!
c. For orthodontic reason:______________________________

But seriously! Any ideas?

Lol maybe she wanted to do something to your wire that would give you what you want and after looking at your file she found a better way to carry it out? Sounds like you have an attentive ortho!
Braced for 23 months 1 week and 3 days!
I had 4 extractions and all my wisdom teeth removed.
I decided to get removal retainers so it will be easier to floss.

Yeah, she certainly is attentive! When the assistant explained it to me, she said that the ortho has been going over my file at home. The woman must think of nothing but teeth! Heh.

Maybe to see your smiling face. Seriously, it sounds like she wants to check to see if this adjustment is doing what you both want. I do know my ortho added an appointment a couple of weeks before my scheduled debanding. Seven days and counting.

That's scary.

But who's counting?

nuttnat: Hahaha! OMG MY TEETH!! I am dooooomed.

iBorg: You were right! My ortho called me today and calmed my fears. She said that she suspected that the IPR she did on my top teeth would get some teeth moving into place that haven't moved yet. She wants me in next week to see if she's right so she knows whether to put that movement in my next wire or not.

That was a relief. MY TEETH ARE NOT GOING TO FALL OUT. Not yet, at least.
