Have I broken a bracket already?! Help!

#1 Post by suzyscientist »

Hey everyone, need some advice from more experience brace-wearers.

I have had my braces on for all of 2 hours and I think I broke a bracket already. I wasn't doing anything, just sitting typing away, and I felt a little pop in my mouth and now the bracket on my upper canine feels wobbly. Does that mean it's broken or is that normal?

Thanks so much and sorry for the daft question - there will probably be loads more to come!

I don't think you broke anything. It sounds like the bond did not take and the bracket has come off the tooth. This happens. Happened to me several times. Not your fault. Give your ortho a call and they can make an appointment for you to come in and have it rebonded.

Thanks so much for replying so fast, and for the advice. I've just called my ortho and they're going to fix it tomorrow. I was so worried I'd broken it already and I'd get into trouble!

Thank you :)

I don't think I've gone a single adjustment without breaking a bracket :)

I popped a bracket off my first day too, but it's only happened to me once.

Bracket Off

#6 Post by Kinda Nervous »

I'm so glad to hear other's talk about their bracket falling off, I had
my first bracket fall and didnt' even no it until I went back in for
adjustment. and when the ortho did change my power band on my
top another one fell off, He was so mad. Told me I should be careful
and it would delay my treatment. If I knew I had one fall off I would
of come in for sure, I just didn't know it.. So scared now that one is going
to fall off, I only eat soft food, and I'm going to get yelled at...

Thanks so much for all the replies! I feel so much better that I'm not the only one who has "oops" incidents with braces :D

I did get a "tut tut" from the receptionist when I called to make an appointment; I don't think she believed me that it just popped off on its own.
