I went to a dinner party this past weekend and there were not 1, not 2, but 3 ADULTS with braces!! It was pretty awkward because we all kept looking at one another, as if we wanted to say, hey nice braces! or something! We all just ignored the issue instead.

Three people with braces would seem like the upper limit for not mentioning it, assuming you didn't live in a locality where every other person has braces.
I went to a dinner party a few days ago, but there was only one other person with braces. I didn't want to single her out or embarrass her just for having braces so I never acknowledged them, and neither did she.
But if there were three I would probably for sure, especially if one of them was a guy. And I would be surprised if at least one of the others didn't mention it first.
Especially a dinner party, which has the most conspicuous braces activity possible (i.e. eating). Almost too easy, just an indirect, "No cole slaw for me, it'd just get stuck on my teeth" would break the ice and spark a two hour conversation. No need to say "nice braces" although that would be cool also.

The one thing I'll miss about being brace free is not having the common discussion topic with strangers about out brace experience. It allowed me to talk to people that I'd never had the courage to talk to. Of course I won't miss the food trapped in them.

I have to say, I find it strange that no one said anything. I definitely would have!
