New to Braces and I hate it
Hi all,
Greetings to everyone. I am new to this forum.
I got my braces on last Friday and I hate it. Right now its only on upper teeth since dentist said she is working on to correct my first bite. 6 months later, she plans to putin the lower ones too. I have metal braces & not ceramic. I hate the way I look. My mouth also looks bloated. I am 30 years old & I am very conscios abt it. I have veryyy crooked teeth & it will take abt 2 & 1/2 years to correct it. I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did anyone hated wearing their braces in the beginning & then started liking it?

I agree with classII. From what i've seen, people with very crooked teeth, see changes faster. So pretty soon you're going to be excited about the changes, and you'll even forget about the braces sometimes. Take pictures, even if you don't post them, you can look at them month after month and feel better.
I'm getting mine on Friday and I'm getting a bit nervous for the same reasons, self-consciousness, so it's interesting to read what your experience has been thus far

If you think about it, the only way for the bite to change is for the teeth to move........this is a slow process and a lesson in patience
It took my teeth at least 4months to "derotate" and align properly before he could really even starting doing anything that made a noticable difference to me....but things have moved along...but slowly!
Yes, noone likes them, noone really, really wanted them, but you have to accept this is who you are right now, and in the end it's for the better (both cosmetic and functional--as you are fixing your bite )
a postive outlook for the end result will go a long way in accpeting that you have braces!! good luck

This is 100% true.classII wrote:Maybe nearly everyone.
The minute you see even one crooked tooth start to move and straighten out, which should be next week for you, you'll fall in love with wearing braces. Guaranteed.

Im goin to turn 47 in May which is much younger than some of the people on this site, but all in all it a comitment that you have to make to your self.
Yeah its a PITA to eat the foods you like, but were is your sence of adventure. Good luck with yours
Braces suck. They look weird, make you talk weird, eating is weird, they hurt, your lip feels like it gets in altercations with weed whackers and it really truly gets better! I'm a few weeks in now and it's really not that bad. There are still the occasional days (like today) when I'm in misery, my braces shreaded my lip and there has got to be movement going on because my teeth just ache. The simple fact is though even just a few weeks in the good days outweigh the bad and all those reasons I had for getting braces are going to make this soooo worthwhile in the end!
My ortho is adjusting my bite a lot right now and although I can see my teeth straightening as well I can feel it in the bite. It's making things awkward some days but it's already feeling better on my jaw and I've gotten less headaches from it. That right there is worth the pain!

I hear a lot how people feel self conscious in braces. I have clear uppers but metal lowers and you'd be surprise how often people don't even notice I have braces. It's pretty common now for adults to have braces and usually people are very supportive, often telling me their braces stories.
Just think that at least wearing braces lets others know you care about your smile. It's definitely better than just letting your teeth go.
And post questions on the forum. It's been invaluable to me in dealing with the general discomfort involved. There is a whole industry out there making things to make being in braces more comfortable so don't "just deal" with the discomfort.

Hi everyone !
I am new too and I feel just like Maggi. I'm 35 a teacher and mom of 3 boys 5 and under. I just got metal braced on Saturday to mainly close a gap that runs in the family . I feel the braces make me look like a crazy woman who may eat her students ( if only she could eat) . I don't know if I should laugh or cry especially since I kind of let my ortho talk me out of ceramics which may have helped me feel more comfortable . Then I saw pictures on this site and many of the women have the ceramic and look great. I keep second guessing my decision and now covet what I did not get I hope things get better.
Estimated time in braces : 13-16 months
first adjustment: May 3
okay this is dumb but how did you guys insert those little "days in braces" ticker things?
