Ways to widen smile

#1 Post by Ohkae »

Can braces itself do that?? Or would I have to get a palatal expander or surgery? I've just turned 18 this year so my jaw/arch/etc has stopped growing already correct? So a palatal expander won't do much I'm guessing.

I find that my smile is a little narrow and I would like it to widen more. The ortho #1 I went to said he would put a palatal expander on my top and bottom teeth for a couple of months. Ortho #3 said that I wouldn't need one because my bottom teeth are tipped in. If that's the case, after my bottom teeth has tipped outward, what about my top teeth? I don't think they are tipped in so I don't want him to tip it outward, it would look odd. When I asked him if getting braces from him, would my smile widen and he just nodded his head so I assume he knows what he's doing. I already made an appointment with ortho #3 already to get braces in a month and they have already sent me the check book and everything so I don't think I'll be backing out.

Thanks for reading.

My top teeth were tipped in causing a crossbite. After 5 months in a quad helix expander the teeth are now where they are supposed to be, and my smile is much wider now. As far as I know, the ortho's can use an "arch expanding" wire, but I'm not a professional so I'm not sure if just braces could make you happy. Maybe a combination of expander and braces like I'm having to do would be a solution?
