I only ask because my old fillings (the more metallic-colored ones) tended to (they're almost all gone and replaced) react with things like onion and taste really gross and metallic-y. I'm going to have an expander for a number of months, then braces for who knows how long, so wondering if I'll have to put up with that again.
Acutally, I did taste my braces for a week or so after I got them. I think it might have been the chemicals that they put on my teeth to seal them, or the glue they used to bond the brackets that I was tasting tho. I don't taste anything unusual any more.
Like LC'sTeefs, I could taste "something" for several days after they were first put on. I have a feeling it was from the bonding agent since it was fairly short lived.
There were never any reactions with foods that I noticed.
I've got an expander like thing on the roof of my mouth, and braces and neither of them taste like anything.. Maybe the first day I got them, they tasted funny, but not now.
I also dont have any metal fillings so I dont know what kind of taste your talking about, but dont worry, after a while the braces are just like a part of your teeth..

The first cup of tea I drank after I got my expander in tasted vile -- really metallic. I must have got used to it because the first cup of tea I drank after my expander was taken out also tasted strange
I had braces after the expander and haven't noticed any taste changes with them.

I to noticed a taste of glue but my orthodontist uses grape and cherry flavored gloves. So that rules out that in my case.
