I have been in braces for over a year, and have a midline that needs to be centered. I was told that the midline is corrected with elastics. But, I don't really get how this works. First of all, I have no more space on the bottom for my teeth to move, and both bottom and top need reshifting. The top, I do have space for the midline to be shifted in the correct direction, but then that would leave a big gap on the other side. Does that make sense?
i hope some of the orthos who come here can shed some light. I read some older posts here about elastic configurations and such.. can you describe these configurations? And explain how this is going to work, and why my ortho isn't trying to correct my midline before the gaps close up? Thanks in advance!!!
Midline Shift.. how to correct?

Really?? That would be even better b/c my chin/jaw doesn't look centered either.UGHBRACES wrote:I have elastics to shift my midline now but i don't have any spaces. I believe the elastics shirt the jaw and not the teeth themselves.
Do you mind explaining how your teeth are off center (is it just the top, the bottom, or both) and what elastic configurations you are using? When did your ortho start to work on your elastics (at what point in your ortho treatment)? Thanks!

VA5 I was also wondering if you had your midline corrected since this thread was made?VA5 wrote:I have been in braces for over a year, and have a midline that needs to be centered. Re: Midline Shift.. how to correct?
Pretty much. It was mostly a slant that I had and that was pretty much taken care of too.
I really don't think you can move your jaw with elastics. I think you need surgery for that.
It took a lot longer than I thought I would... I can tell you that much!
