Okay first off Im a college student so I make very little money, but I live at home which is a huge money saver. Anyway I have two options. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Option 1:

I went to a Private General Dentist/ Orthodontist. I was told going to a dentist that does both would be a bit cheaper. However there located in a pretty nice part of town. I was quoted $4000.00 for an 18 month treatment. Is that a bit much? I also don’t have orthodontic insurance. I am under both my parents’ plans, but seeing as I am 19, I don’t qualify for either. If I chose this option I would purchase a Discount Card, which would knock my cost down to $3200.

Option 2:

I’ve been looking into other insurance plans that cover ortho for adults. I have found Golden West. They have a contracted rate with a limited amount of dentist in my area for only $1795.00 (x-rays, appliances, and extractions not included). The price sounds right up my alley, however I have no clue what the average dentist charges for x-rays, appliances and extractions. I have been told by other orthos that I would have one tooth removed on the bottom front row.

Please help me. Which option would you choose and why? Which would be cheaper?

Not sure if this will help you but this is what I'm going through. I Currently do have dental insurance which helps a bit on a few things however they have a cap on what they cover.

If I was to proceed with my treatment plan that was given to me (18-24 months in full metal braces *again*) then it would cost me $2,650 that's including the initial records, braces, check-ups, final records and retainers but that's because my insurance covered half the treatment and since I'm a second timer they cut me a little bit of a deal. Grand total before insurance took over was $6000 - 700 discount - 2650 insurance = my cost 2650.

I Would probably look around and see what types of insurance plans you can find and that will cover you. Also see if there is any Smilecare facility's around you as they offer plans of insurance for general dentistry along with orthodontic plans. Just if you find a place near by just let them know that you were referred by a current patient and we both get a $50 credit for any SmileCare service!
