Braces with no extraction?

#1 Post by bottlecap1990 »

Hi, I got my braces without any teeth being extracted. I asked my ortho if I need my wisdom teeth extracted and he said he would prefer the result with the wisdom teeth.

My question is that am I going to have any tooth extracted in the future after having braces for a couple of months? My ortho never said anything about extracting teeth. I am just curious because a lot of people get their tooth extracted later on after getting braces. I was just wondering if there is a possibility of me getting a tooth extraction.

thanks.

extractions

#2 Post by sadpanda »

Hi -

I had my wisdom teeth out 11 years before I got braces because my dentist noticed that there wasn't enough room in my mouth for them and if I didn't get them out before they poked through, they could have caused serious crowding or worse. Then when I got my braces, I needed no extractions. If your ortho wants to see your result with the wisdom teeth, you must have enough room in your mouth for them and extracting any other teeth is probably unlikely. I have a very small mouth, but I guess everything is proportional, so I've been lucky to not have extractions...except for a tooth I lost to sensitivity and couldn't afford a root canal to keep it.

Hi. When I went to the dentist for a cleaning (6-8 months before I got my braces) he did NOT say anything about my wisdom teeth. Not even a word.

Again when i went in for a consultation with my ortho, he said I don't need to get any teeth extracted (including the wisdom teeth).

I guess I don't need to get any teeth extracted
I think I have a small mouth though LOL.

My wisdom teeth haven't grown yet but my orthodontist said I will eventually have to get them extracted once they come out while being braced.

My teeth were pretty crowded, but I did not need extractions. However, I did have my wisdom teeth out about 10 years before I got braces.

Good luck!!
