Cut in my mouth

I woke up with a nasty cut in my mouth. Apparently I cut my upper gum on one of my brackets. I have been using wax to keep it off of the bracket and a canker sore medication. But its killing me. Does anyone know if they make some sort of a sealant that adheres to your gums? That would be better than the gel crap I have been using.

Try Benzodent, it comes in a small tube, similiar to orajel. Apply it with a q-tip. It is a pasty white sustance that stays in place. It has never failed me. I have bought it at Walmart but I am sure you can find it at any drugstore.

I always let my sores heal on their own, without any wax, so that i get calluses on those spots....so....no more sores in the future. :D
The only thing I do to help is salt water rinses.

I've noticed that anything that contains benzocaine burns a lot. There's something by GUM called Canker-X that is made with aloe instead and it helps with cuts and sores from braces. I got it at Walgreens.

While on travel I woke up with a cut on my lower lip. Wax on one of my brackets had fallen off and the sharp metal on the bracket impaled me. (Okay, it wasn't THAT bad, but OMG it hurt, and eating was impossible!!)

I walked around with a fat lip and without eating, for days, and co-workers quickly learned not to talk to me since I was grouchy and sleepy!

I feel your pain, and I hope you heal soon! Sorry I don't know of any sealant type stuff to help!

Ignorant question alert: How does one cut their GUMS with a bracket? My brackets don't come anywhere near my gums. Unless your gums are unusually swollen, and touch your brackets?

Onto the question: Benzodent is great, as Snowglobe says. It numbs fantastically. But, I can never get it to STICK! I mostly use it on the inside of my cheeks for when pokey wires start bothering me, and tearing up the back of my mouth. I cannot seem to get the Benzodent to stick; it ends up congealing into one big ball and I end up swallowing it (YUCK!!)

I have tried Orajel (it's orange in color and comes in a small bottle). I apply it with a Q-tip, and it immediately numbs the area. Sometimes, I keep the Q-tip in there for 30 seconds or so (like the dentist does when he numbs me for fillings). It doesn't taste half bad, either. However, it doesn't last very long.

The other night, I had Orajel, Benzodent and a TON of wax in my mouth before I went to bed. Lemme tell ya - cleaning all of that crap out in the morning was NOT fun!
