That is pretty cool!! I have a few of these myself, and was wondering how they'll get rid of them, being that the tops of my teeth meet, but seem to get narrower the farther down you go, resulting in the triangle.

I think this is something they'd probably do towards the end of treatment, after your teeth are already pretty much aligned. I had the top of one tooth sanded down a bit (to get rid of a shart, pointy corner), but he said he didn't want to do anymore until they're more aligned - a couple more wires from now.

Thank you for posting that! I will keep that in mind over the next year or so.

Thanks for posting this! My ortho said he was going to do exactly what was shown in that video. I couldn't picture what he was talking about but now I understand :D

Works great. I do that every day.

drrick-

Is this something that's done mid-treatment, or does the ortho generally wait until towards the end? I'm just trying to figure out how long it would take for those newly-made gaps to close up, and how it would suck if that part would extend my treatment in any way.

Thanks-
Cathy

Timing will vary from pt to pt but the good news is once the IPR is done and the pwr chain is placed the space is typically closed very rapidly (within 1 appt usually) now if there is a BIG black triangle it might be done in a couple/few stages but typically it does not take long.

oh, meaning your dentist will give you a powerchain to close those triangles? but it will open again when i floss!

The tooth contacts shouldnt open up as you floss.
The powerchain brings the teeth closer together closing the space created by the IPR.

i did not have any IPR, i am at my last few stages of my treatment and my dentist gives me a power chain probably to stablise the teeth. But from the side view, my teeth seems to be slanted, but its looks totally straight from the front. its due to the shape of my teeth.

one question, can you request your dentist to do IPR for you to make your teeth look nicer, or only when its need, like eg. when there is crowding.

If you dont like the way the teeth are shaped/black triagles, etc just bring it up with your doc. We want to make you look good and feel good so just ask and if it is possible we can do it.

My orthodontist mentioned this too, and I'm so glad to see the video. I have these triangles everywhere already.... Thanks for sharing!

just as your dentist "are you going to do ipr? " inter-proximal reduction, i think that's what it is. or you can just say, are you going to shave my teeth? it won't happen until the VERY end of your treatment.

hi there... doesn't it affect the tooth in the long run?

i have a black triangle, caused by a bigeminated lateral incisor..they cut it in half, did 2 root canals on it, i now have one left..after the extraction of the other half..(each half had its own root)..
so my gum is straight there, it doesnt form that "V" between my front incisor and my new lateral one..

here's a pic*sorry for the quality*

Image

the part in red is my remaining half, that was also rebuilt (the part facing the back of my mouth is natural and the part facing my front is rebuilt with cement i guess) and the blue one is my triangle..
i worry about my remaining half a lot as it has suffered so much, and my front incisor, because it is showing so much.. if in any way is possible it affects it, i guess i prefer my black triangle :D

hmm, i dont know. but, IPR makes more space right, which means there' will be gaps. and. actually my dentist has given me 6 link powerchain on the top, to tighten up, so i doubt she will do a IPR there right? cos im nearing end of treatment.
My friend's only 3 months into it and her dentist gave her IPR!

so ill just ask my dentist about it, but i doubt she will do IPR on me.... :(
