I've wanted braces since I was in the third grade and now that I'm 31 I'm finally getting them. I'm so emotional today. I'm nervous, excited, and anxious! I didn't tell my co-workers so it'll be interesting to see everyones reaction.
I'm so grateful for this site I spent all weekend getting everything I think I need from applesauce, jello, pudding, mashed potatoes, rice, viennas & noodles. I even picked up the Braces Cookbook oh & I got my items for my self made dental kit. It's less than 24 hrs away from my appt I'm praying I won't be in too much pain. Oh my GOD! I just got a reminder call for my appt in the middle of my post. I'm nervous
Good for you! I'm 31 too and have been a metal mouth for 5 months. The BEST advice I got was to use the bite wafer. It is like a teether for adults, the more blood you keep flowing to those gums they faster they start to feel better.
I am sure you will be fine. Your level of apprehension is normal. I couldn't sleep the night before I got mine on. A lot of it was not really knowing the procedure and how I would feel after. Take a pain reliever before you go through because you probably will feel alot of pressure on your teeth you are not used to. Let us know how you make out.
Congratulations!!!! I'm 2 weeks plus 3 days in braces now and it really is more exciting than I thought it would be, just knowing that I'm on my way to straight teeth. Now I'm obsessed with teeth -- mine and everyone else's. For me it didn't hurt getting them on. I didn't care for the plastic thing that keeps your cheeks from touching your teeth, though. Whenever the ortho applied a little pressure on it, tears would spring to my eyes! But it wasn't in for long, thank goodness. You sound like you're going to be really happy to be on your way and that's so great!
Ok I took the advice of others from this site I ate a good breakfast & took Tylenol an hr before my appt. I got there 15 minutes early & the wait wasn't very long. They x-Ray and picture process was easy...but the molding wasn't. The bottom mold went by 60 seconds no problem. But the top was so thick & gooey and tasted like a minty peptobizmol. Eeeew! I threw up twice! (so embarassing) the assistant was sooo nice & very understanding though. Ok after I gargled w/ listerene I got my uppers molded w/ out incident....whew! Then to the big room to get my braces on & I remembered that I now had an empty stomach & no longer pre-medicated. I'm so glad I had my Ginger ale in the car for my upset stomach...I took another Tylenol w/ it. The process wasn't bad. They did have my mouth stretched opened about 30 minutes on & off while putting the brackets on, then they put the wire on & closed the brackets. No pain at all for now. And after about 2hrs I feel fine! I ate oil sausage (viennas yellow can) & pudding. I'm so happy! [/img]
