Need help to clear some queries which make me real worried!

#1 Post by wulfgarian »

I had my four wisdom teeth whereby my upper two wisdom teeth had successfully erupted while my bottom two wisdom teeth are impacted.

But my four wisdom teeth were extracted before i see my orthodontist.
I ask my orthodontist that if i had made the wrong choice in extracting my wisdom teeth.
She replied that there is nothing to worry about as I won't have space for wisdom teeth.
But in fact i had two upper wisdom teeth that had erupted properly.

My problem is as she extracted another 4 for my premolar.
If she is to retract my teeth and move forward my back molar to cover the gap, won't i have a lack of support at the back of my jaw?

I had posted this query in a number of posts but nobody seem to reply.

i really hope there are some kind replies to discuss this.
And i will really appreciated that very much.
Thank you..

From what I know, the wisdom teeth are no use for us in the eating process, so I really can't imagine them being usefull in any other matter.
You still have 2 molars left on each side, they also have 4 roots, which I believe will give you enough support.
This is all the help I can give you...maybe one of the doctors on this forum can give you a better explanation.

I had my 4 wisdoms out recently and was told that it is not advisable to leave in two wisdoms even if healthy as if they have no tooth to meet when the jaw is closed it can cause problems later on. I know some people have just one or two removed but i was told to have either all 4 removed or none. None wasn't an option for me so i had all four out.

I cannot comment on how they will move the teeth around im afraid im sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon.

A lot of people who need extractions have their wisdom teeth out and 2 or 4 premolars as well. I have a friend who had all 8 (wisdoms and premolars) out and she has a big, beautiful smile. Your wisdom teeth are pretty useless. Some people don't have them at all (I only had 3), some come in fine, some mess up the bite when they try, some are impacted. Your ortho probably knows what s/he is doing. If you're worried about it, you can always go for a second opinion.

I also had 2 upper wisdom teeth removed several years ago. One year ago, I had got 4 teeth extracted (2 upper, 2 lower premolars) before I had the braces. Recently, my dentist told me that my wisdom teeth on the right side is coming out. He advised me to be careful about cleaning my gum at the back. However, I don't know whether the erupting wisdom tooth will affect the progress of my original treatment. Anyone have the similar problem as mine?

I had all four wisdoms in my mouth when I began my orthodontic treatment. Approximately 5 months later, my ortho recommended that I see an oral surgeon about removing all my wisdoms. I believe that my lower right wisdom in particular was impacted and had only partially erupted and was causing all sorts of problems including getting in the way of my right 2nd molar being banded. I went for the consult and the oral surgeon's recommendation was to remove only 2 wisdoms, the bottom right and upper left ones. I had these extracted 2 weeks ago. I don't think the wisdoms will get in the way of your treatment but if they do, like in my case, I'm sure your ortho will say something to you about removing them.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience, KatieGee. I think I'll ask my dentist for further advice in my next appointment.
