How do you NOT think about your braces?

I had a pretty good weekend but last night I became so AWARE of my braces. I got kinda quiet and grumbly! They just suddenly felt THERE, hard and lumpy. No aches or anything. Not the kind of pain you put wax on, I was just very conscious of them in my mouth. I couldn't shake the feeling for hours. I didn't even want a cookie because it meant eating it, you know?
What do you do when this happens to you? It's all well and good to think "It's worth it!" but what do you physically DO?
I seem to shut up and stop talking for a while so they're not rubbing on my lips and cheeks. If I can, I'll play some SPAMS or watch one of my favourite tv shows to help distract myself.

I get hyper aware of mine sometimes too. Mostly when I am stressed out or annoyed about something. Usually I do not even fell them in my mouth, its weird.

I think this is normal in the beginning. Then that feeling just sort of fades away with time.

I guess this must be normal. I have had my braces for 2 months now. The first couple of weeks were challenging while my mouth got used to them.....then I was fine for a few weeks, didn't really think about them at all. Then, randomly, out of the blue, whammo! They feel HUGE in my mouth and I'm talking funny and thinking what the heck? I thought I was over this! Then they go back to being fine again.

Sometimes, well most of the time I am fine with my braces, but sometimes I will just look at them in the mirror and think "Oh man I/the braces look hideous! I want them off now!"
I just hate sometimes when I smile and they just catch everywhere. Ugh!

So it looks like the feeling will happen less and less until it almost goes away. At least I know what's in my future...

Yeah, when I first got mine on, they just felt huge in my mouth. I hated it. I couldn't close my mouth w/o feeling like I had a ball or something in my mouth. But definitely that feeling subsides. I'm really looking forward to rubbing my tongue against my smooth teeth though.. can't wait. n

I think it might also be as the teeth are moving, so even though you've gotten used to the initial 'what the heck is this in my mouth?!' feeling - as your teeth move you have a new shape of things in your mouth to get used to.
Remember its all for the greater good!

I have had mine so long that they are a part of me, but I can feel them always there. Sometimes when I am in close proximity and talking to someone I notice a bit of staring and I simply accept this as fairly natural and accept myself as I am. This appears to me to be a reoccuring theme and is actually somewhat interesting and a good drill to enable yourself to strengthen your own self confidence. Imagine if you had a serious deformity of some sort what this would be like.

So it's all normal then.
Somedays I kind of like them. They don't feel so bad and I'm rather proud to smile with them.
On a side note, I really "nerded" out this weekend and loved every minute of it. Glasses, braces, a Ghostbusters t-shirt, stripped pink hoodie, jeans, blue THIS IS SPAM REPORT TO ADMIN THIS IS SPAM REPORT TO ADMIN THIS IS SPAM REPORT TO ADMIN THIS IS SPAM REPORT TO ADMIN and I bought v ideo g ames! All I needed was some acne and I'd be 14 again.

When I first got my braces, they felt huge! Nit to mention I also had bite turbos and a quad helix expander... It goes away after a while, I really don't notice mine most days. I only really notice them if something is rubbing on my cheeks or if food is stuck in them. I also talked funny when I first got them. I would try to move my lips in a weird way and a friend told me to stop trying too hard to talk and they will feel better when I talk. I also remember when I had everything in my mouth, I would get tired from tLking or eating haha. The feeling will pass luchababe
i hardly think about them anymore unless I get a cankor sore

I am 4 months into braces and hardly think about them now. A couple weeks back braces were rubbing inside of mouth and caused a sore place even with wax but that has went away and i am back to not being aware of them again.

I'm 9 months in, and I never forget I have them.
But it's like...wearing long dangling earrings. You know you are wearing them because they are costantly jingling around your head, but you don't mind that they do - they are just there.
For me its the same; I know that they are there, but they don't bother me.
((lol, I found another similarity - dangling earrings always get stuck in the clothes or in the hair, just like food gets stuck in the braces!!))

I have also been really aware of mine this past week. I've had to talk a lot more than usual, and I think that's why. They are just really annoying me and I keep stretching my lips around and over them for some reason.
I can't give you any advice, but just thought I'd commiserate!
