Loose bracket- help!

#1 Post by hypocrite opportunist »

One of my brackets came loose tonight and now I can slide it around on the wire. It is Saturday night so I won't be able to make a call to my ortho's office until Monday morning. Any advice as to what to do in the meantime, or should I just ignore it until Monday? Thanks!

That happened to me once, too. Mine was a self-ligating bracket that became unglued from my crown, so I just left it there until my appointment a couple of days later. If it bothers you, just stick a piece of wax on it and call the ortho first thing Monday morning. Depending on when your next scheduled appointment is, he/she may ask you to come in right away or just wait it out.

Good luck!

Definitely put a piece of wax on it so the bracket does not irritate your mouth. Hopefully, you can get an appointment soon!

Yes, mine is a self-ligating bracket that came unglued as well- my next appt isn't until January so I'll just call on Monday and make another appt. I was just worried that having this one bracket not connected properly would mess something up with the way my teeth are shifting.

I had the same thing happen on a crown. Just put a little wax on it and call your ortho in the morning.

It should not shift your teeth to have a bracket loose for a few days. When you call tomorrow, they will probably get you in right away. Having a loose bracket feels weird, as if you are 5 and losing your teeth again.

I called my ortho and she didn't seem all that concerned about it. I have an appt to have it fixed on Friday- 6 days after it came unglued.

Same thing happened to me...ortho said it was no big deal. Although he did accuse me of hitting the Halloween candy, which is ridiculous as it's a front bracket. What, do I chew like a squirrel???

That happened to me the first day in braces which was on a Thursday eve and the office is closed on Fridays. Got it fixed Mon AM, couldn't wait because it was very annoying, wax or gum somewhat can stabilize it. That was 14 months ago and I still remember it.
