Does it hurt when you get the metal bands put in?

#1 Post by littleviolet »

Im having my spacers out tomorrow and getting the metal bands fitted. Is it going to hurt? I didn't find the spacers to be very painful, just a little discomfort.

During the fitting of my molar bands it didn't hurt at all. Just a little pressure sometimes when he was trying to find the right size.

I did experience some discomfort by the next day, but that was on my tongue, because on the inside of the molar bands are elastic hooks and these started to rub on the sides of my tongue. I was going to use wax, but within a few days my tongued got used to them. They still rub on my tongue, but don't cause any discomfort anymore. I didn't experience any discomfort on the insides of my cheeks at all, even though I have elastic hooks on that side too, as well as headgear tube.

Sorry but they hurt me. My molars were sore because they put them in right after the spacers came off. All that pushing and pulling hurt badly. One of them went on a crown and that tooth were super sore anyway and always has been. I honestly felt they were going to break my crown from all the pressure they were putting on it. Best of luck.

Sorry, my molar bands hurt, too. I have 3 crowns, so I had to have molar bands put on all of them. The problem for me was that the teeth under my crowns were already so sore. The tech had to put several different ones on to find the perfect one. I would hate having to bite down hard on those sore teeth for her to then say that it wasn't a good fit, pull it off, and then try another one. If your teeth aren't too sore it may not be too bad. But, if you have sore teeth, it probably will hurt. Also, maybe you'll get lucky and the first band they try will fit. Good luck!

Well I guess I was lucky then! my teeth don't hurt at all. My only problem is the hooks rubbing on my cheeks. But the wax has helped with that, and it feels a little weird to chew on food.

They annoyed me at first too but now I hardly notice them. I just hate the rough feeling of them against my tongue at times. Somedays I just want to be free of all this hardware. My teeth feel like they are in prison.

This was my experience in nutshell. I was ready to curse and cry. I was like for the love of god just please one find one that will fit.

Mine, too. If you read my story, my molar bands were probably my least favorite part of the process so far, but that is just because my assistant couldn't get the right fit for the life of her. It also hurt to bite down because they took my spacers in and out, in and out... she said we'd need to put the spacers back since we couldn't get the bands to fit, then they'd take them right back out to try another size! After all that mess, I was very sore.

If you don't have any extenuating circumstances like I did, the bands should hopefully be a breeze. :)

To get mine on hurt and was very uncomfortable. They had to try different ones to get the right fit and I was just praying for it to end. After it was on, it did not hurt much.

I had mine done on Thursday and it was NOT as bad as the feeling of spacers. Take some advil if you need to, I forgot. It only hurt when she was pressing my lips against the brackets, I think my mouth is too small.

She had to try lots of different sizes to find the right one, she was really, really experienced and knew what she was doing though.

I only got 6 of the 8 molar bands put in because my teeth were too tight and she did not want to hurt me. So I will have to do the spacers again in 2 spots in January and try it again. DO NOT worry it is not that bad and I have REALLY tight teeth. It goes by really fast and will be done before you know it. Good luck and let us know what your experience was like

Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better!! I am just ready to get it over with though, I know that for sure! I didnt have to get any spacers, so I dont know what that would have felt like. Honestly, I didnt have to have anything done before I get them on, just the xrays and molds and none of that was bad. So hopefully Monday wont be either. I will let you all know how it goes!

It didn't really hurt, but it is very uncomfortable and they may need to apply a large amount of pressure which might be interpreted by your brain as pain if you get too tense. It doesn't really hurt, but the bottoms may hurt your jaw joint, not the actual teeth.
