Broken Elastics hook on metal molar band?

#1 Post by ngarner0717 »

I managed to break the hook off of my upper left molar band. I wear class 3 elastics. I also have a traveling ortho that goes to my dental office every other week. My next appointment is on 2/10. Do you think not wearing my elastics for 2 weeks is going to set me back by much? I called the dental office and they stated that is something the ortho will have to fix so I just need to keep my appointment and wait. Also do I keep wearing the elastic on the right till my appointment?

I think if this happened to me, my ortho would tell me to come in right away to fix it.
Can you contact your ortho prersonally so you can get his opinion? They make such a big deal of us wearing them 24/7 so I assume this might not be something you should wait on. Maybe you can call back and see if they can give you the number to wherever he is or maybe pass a message onto him.

Plus, I have always been told that if I have something broken to let them know so they can allot time for my next appointment. For example, if I am scheduled to come in for a simple wire change, then mention that I broke off 3 brackets....the time to replace those will cause my appointment to run longer causing others to wait.

If all else fails, depending on how long you have been wearing the elastics, I wouldn't wear any simply because you don't know what damage can be caused by only wearing one side.
