Should I worry about this??

#1 Post by badbite »

I had jaw surgery 7 weeks ago, and the ortho says everything is great, wants to take the braces off in two weeks. My bite is very good (for the first time in my life), however my midline is off. Mt top and bottom line up but not with my face. My surgeon did tell me before hand that my midline may not be perfect, but he said the top and bottom wouldn't match that my top midline would be perfect. I guess the bite was better this way, so that is the way he set it. I took a picture so everyone could see. Would you worry about it or just not mess with the bite which is awesome.

That must be very upsetting after going through all that you have. I'd talk to the ortho about it. It may not be worth it to fix it but you should at least ask. Otherwise it will probably bug you every time you see a picture. Even though others will never notice something so small, if you think it could have been changed but you didn't ask then you will probably be more aware of it.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your teeth look great. They say it's not always possible to fix midlines if it would mess up something else that needed to be corrected more - like your bite. My midline is way off and I hope it gets better, but I'm definitely more worried about having my overbite fixed. Actually, there was a case on this board of someone who had a perfect midline before braces, but to fix her bite, her midline had to be shifted. I'm not sure what she decided about it, but I don't think she expected it and didn't like it. I guess it just depends on your teeth. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. It really only is 1-2 mm, but I think I will mention it before he takes off the braces to see if it can be fixed. I really want them off but if it can be fixed, what is a few months longer, right?

Well I called the ortho this morning and they had me come right in. The orhtho says I shouldn't get it fixed. He said my bite is perfect, my upper and lower midline match up well, and he doesn't think we should try and move things around. I guess this will me my signature smile.

I agree with everyone else here - your teeth look fantastic! I do see what you're referring to, because my midline is off, too. However, mine is WAAAAAAY off, and if I can get mine to look like yours by the end of all this, I will be thrilled. Congrats to you on your upcoming debracing!
