Gaps opening back up towards end of treatment... WHY
My ortho had me in "heavy" elastics, metal wire ties, and metal coils.. to push back my teeth and close my extraction gaps once and for all. Last visit, almost all gaps were closed. Bottoms were comletely closed, one top gap needed closing. And then, she took a panoramic xray and repositioned brackets and then put me in plain elastic powerchains, and no more elastics and no more metal coils. Just elastic powerchains. So now, fast forward 2 weeks, and the gaps are ALL opening up again!!! It looks like my teeth about 5 months ago, basically! It's so frustrating. I'm just wondering, WHY did she go down to the elastic powerchains and that's it? No metal wire ties, no metal coils, no elastics? She said, it was to have the teeth settle in after the gaps were closed. What is that supposed to mean? I can sort of understand, maybe she needed some space for the brackets to reposition the teeth... but there is quite a bit of space that needs to be closed again. So, now I have a deband estimate of "sometime this summer" instead of "sometime this winter"! What happened to the spring?? She said, it's spring already, so I am going to be braced for at LEAST 3 more months!!!

Sorry to hear that! im kind of in the same boat only my problem has to do with the ortho going back and forth with elastics and powerchains. im over the whole experience and was supposed to have them removed last month... my advice: don't think about it too much because it causes too much stress and theres so little we can do about it. just trust the ortho knows what she's doing and keep your mind on other things. good luck!

Funny thing is I did finally get that attitude a few months ago.. thinking that, why worry when my braces will be off in a few more months. Well fast forward to today and now I have to wait at least 3-4 more months? It's kind of hard to continue having that outlook.pasr16 wrote:Sorry to hear that! im kind of in the same boat only my problem has to do with the ortho going back and forth with elastics and powerchains. im over the whole experience and was supposed to have them removed last month... my advice: don't think about it too much because it causes too much stress and theres so little we can do about it. just trust the ortho knows what she's doing and keep your mind on other things. good luck!
