Bends in wire making teeth worse!

#1 Post by balniusc »

I'm in the tail end of treatment and my ortho has been doing what he calls "root manipulations" by placing small bends in the wire. The problems is, it's been making my teeth look more and more out of alignment. My black triangles are getting bigger (as well as new ones forming), my teeth are no longer level, front teeth are pulled down and more rabbit-y, and I'm getting really frustrated! In the beginning of this journey I took pictures after each appt to track my progress. Unfortunately I only did this for the first few appts, but as I look back I find that I like my teeth much much more in the early stages of treatment. What should I do???? I know I'm at the end of treatment because we're just waiting to get the final x rays to check out the root positions. (I'm currently pregnant.) What do you think is going on? And how do I get the point across that I'm most concerned about the aesthetics of my teeth, not the root positions? My ortho is a really nice guy, but he's fresh out of school. Do you think this is due to inexperience?

I am at this stage too. Before my ortho took my elastics and metal powerchains off, my teeth were looking pretty good.. especially the spaces. Now, she took most of the stuff off to let my teeth settle, took some xrays to see my roots, and repositioned brackets and put small kinks in my wires here and there. She too is trying to get my teeth's roots in the right position. The thing is, this is very important. If your teeth are moved into correct position only by tilt, and not by new root positions, your teeth will not be stable in that formation. You WANT your roots to be in line too for stability and health of the teeth, gums, bone, etc. Your ortho would not be doing his job if he wasn't concerned about your roots.
