Retainer help!

#1 Post by peerue »

Jsut got debanded on Monday, and my new retainer yesterday...I have Hawley retainers on top and bottom and both have a fake tooth in them to have until I decide to get implants or not...it's been about 24 hours now, but boy, are they supposed to hurt so much when I take them out? Will that get easier?? My gum has a sore spot on the bottom that gets rubbed when I put it in and especially when I take it out--will this get used to it, just like the braces, and eventually not hurt anymore, or do I need to see about having the bottom retianer trimmed some more?
Thanks for your help!!!

I got debanded Wednesday and started with retainers right away. They said it would take a few days to get used to them, and after awhile they should become more comfortable. I've had a sore spot on my gum off and on - guess it depends how I put them in. Good luck and I hope you're feeling more comfortable soon. If it doesn't get better, I'd call your ortho.
