Painful bump on inside of top jaw.

About a week ago, I noticed the gum between two of my upper last molars got a little tender to the touch. I made nothing of it and continued on as per usual. However, yesterday I noticed the gum area leading to the roof of my mouth is swollen and painful. It is quite painful to swallow and I can't eat on that side without feeling bouts of pain. I looked at it yesterday with the dental mirror and it is quite swollen, even more than I thought.

Could this be an abscess? I made an appointment to see my dentist this afternoon to have it checked out as it is sooooo uncomfortable. Anyone else knows about or had this kind of thing?

My guess is food is caught up in there. If I am right, then the dentist will clean the area and get whatever is in there out, and it will heal in no time after that.

He said it was a periodontal flare due to food getting stuck and causing some inflammation. He cleaned it and gave me some anti-biotics for ten days. He also gave me some pain killers because my word, this thing is painful.
