Has anyone changed orthodonists and type of braces?

#1 Post by Want2smile »

Hey everyone,

I'm 7 months into treatment with ceremic braces and I'm not at all happy with the care I have received(mainly the aftercare). Basically in this short space of time the practice have cancelled and changed 3 appointments putting each one back 2-4 weeks. At the beginning of the year the practice cancelled an appointment and said they would be in touch, I didn't hear anything after a week then couldn't get hold of them for another 2 weeks, it turns out they were closed for refurbishment but hadn't said anything. As you can imagine I was beginning to panic a bit at this point! Then last month I had to cancel an appointment as I was not well at all and they couldn't see me again for another 5 weeks because the orthodontist wasn't there.

I finally saw him on Monday and he did the usually changes of bands and wires. He also put brackets on my bottom back teeth. (At the appointment before this he did the same for the top back teeth, one bracket popped off while I was there and the other one popped off the next day at home leaving me with a long bit of wire stuck in my cheek. Nodobody would see me for over a week so I had to cut the wire myself) Fast forward back to the last appointment and once again a back bracket has popped off except this time the wire has gone inbetween my tooth and gum :( I have an appointment to see the dentist today because surprise surprise the orthodontist isn't there again for a couple of weeks, to be honest I'm suprised they've booked me in with the dentist so soon.

My brackets are all chipped, the bands were changed 3 days ago and I already have 5 brackets without bands on. I'm getting really fed up of the lack of aftercare I'm getting. I accept that these things happen but it's such a worry not knowing if I'll be able to get the help when I need it. Despite all of this I'm really pleased with how things have progressed given the circumstances, but I'm seriously considering going elsewhere and starting treatment from scratch if need be.

It was such a huge descision to get braces and we've invested a lot of money into it, money that hasn't been easy to get hold of at that and I feel so let down by the lack of care I have received.

Has anyone been in a similar situation to this? What did/would you do?

Huge thanks in advance,

Hey there.
I'm totally new here but I saw your post and I can relate to it.
I started with the same braces as you have.
And the same appt problems as well.
After 3 yrs and dragging results I had enough and went to the damon braces and my new ortho is the greatest!
These braces have moved my teeth move with fewer visits in just 2 yrs than the whole time I saw the ortho.
I recommend the damon braces very highly.

Yes I have. I changed my orthodontist after 3/4 months. I was very dissatisfied with only being able to see the ortho once a month. He was a visitng ortho, and he was using my dentitst's place of business as his as well, but only for one day a week. I had a bracket pop off of a crown, and he would replace the bracket at the next scheduled appointment, and after a few days it would pop off again and I would have to wait weeks again.
I am now currently with a new ortho, and he is wonderful.
If you aren't satisfied, change.
I did, and I am so much happier with my new ortho!
