I am 24 years old and am young looking as it is. Now I feel with my braces I look like I am 16/17 I don't know what to do to make myself look older. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Same here. But if i were you i'd use that to my advantage. It's always nice to see the shock on peoples faces when they realize that you are NOT 12, but double that XD. Besides now you can act like a kid and no one will look at you weird :p. Have fun with it!

SAME here.. and I agree, Plumcore.. I love the surprise factor when people are convinced I'm still in high school. I just smile and casually bring up that I just finished up my Master's degree.. fantastic lol

@christa.. I have the same problem. This is such an interesting age to get braces. I've been trying to look older in how I dress. I figure, if my 16 yr old sister wears it, I probably shouldn't, ya know..? I'm thinking maybe a good haircut could do the trick too lol.. let me know if you come up with anything good!

LOL I really relate! It doesnt help that I look a little young for my age (26) and I am short/smaller....and my husband and I have a fairly significant age difference...so the stares and looks as you can imagine are even worse!

I laugh when people look at us because I know that even though I have crows feet, they cant see it from far away so they must see a 15/16 year old not a 26 year old. The best part is going out to eat. I have been carded SO MUCH since I have had my braces....so much in fact that I went and got a new license pic with my braces on. The first time I tried to buy a drink with my old license pic (different hair too) they wouldnt sell it to me...I had to prove to the manager I was who I said I was, no lie.

Nonetheless, the only thing that helps me not look so young is not smiling. But I dont care enough to not smile. LOL

Same here. I am 31 and I never looked my age even before braces.

I really feel it when I am with my 8 year old at her elementary school or her ballet class. One of the teachers came up to me the day I got my braces and said, "You look so cute with braces." I kind of don't know for sure if I want the word cute used. I guess it's better to be called "cute" instead of "dorky".

I'm 43 (a very young-looking 43, with no children), and went shopping on Mother's Day. Just before I left, the cashier...very hesitantly... said "Happy Mother's Day...?" I didn't say anything and just smiled, and she quickly added, "Oh, I guess not yet..." Now, I don't know why she'd say that, with the rash of teenage pregnancies we have, but I took it as a compliment. I'm more than happy to be compared to a teenager.

It is no different than a lil role playing when you get a new haircut, or a daring new outfit.

Don't know if you guys watch The Middle on TV or not, but I have to admit...I look a lot like Sue....

.....so that was my Halloween costume last year...yellow hoodie and braces. LOL

I agree, ENJOY it!! I got student discounts everywhere lol! I am 27 and looked 18 without braces so with braces I was even getting carded for lotto and to enter the A recipe for clams casino (which are 18 and up). It was pretty fun, besides the people close to you know who you are. Andonce the braces are off it'll all be worth it!
