How does torquing feel?

#1 Post by Mewwie »

I would love to hear experiences about:

1. How often does an orthodontist use torquing? Usually in what kind of situation?
2. How did it feel?
3. When should torquing start - is it later in the treatment?

I have mild bimax protrusion which would require pushing my teeth, including my gums (more specifically alveolar bones beneath the gums) backwards. My orthodontist discussed with me that torque is needed for my case. However I have not seen any of this action, only straighter teeth so far. I'm only 3 months into braces, about 15 more months to go.

I'd like to know the answer to this question too.

What exactly is torquing by the way?? is it when they change the angulation of your teeth to straight instead of sticking out??

i have bimaxilliary protrusion too and took out 4 premolars. My teeth are definitely at an angle, and need to be straightened then teeth + gums pushed back and wonder myself in what order things will happen.
I have had braces for 3 months and to tell you the honest truth the only change i have seen is one lower molar that was out of alignment is in alignment now. My teeth are fairly straight though, so i guess i'm not expecting too much of a change in terms of straightness.

my Ortho askes for the torque pliers at every check up...almost..
she did some "U" shapes in the arch wire, for my molars to come forward, she is closing spaces, and separately she did someting that i cant see, for one of my canines, that is a bit rotated.. i cant see something obvious taht she did to the wire there...

the feeling is pressure and kind of hurts for a few days after but not badly...mostly disconfort..
