First few hours and ping
Well after lengthy delays my treatment has finally started in Ernest. First I had some plastic rings inserted between my back teeth, then metal placed in the gap that made and now the braces.
Unfortunately, only minutes after them being put on something went wrong.
I was driving back from hospital and getting adjusted to the metal in my mouth suddenly I felt a ping, and then shortly another ping. I though it must have been my teeth moving or something and must be normal. I got back home and looked in the mirror and I realized what had happened two of the metal things have come off. One is now free floating over my incisor the other is just loose on the back tooth and I have managed to push that one back to where it should be, though it will no doubt move again.
Now I was not eating or doing anything unusual for them to come off.
The thing is, is this something I need to get sorted right away? Just I am running out of time I can take off work what with the 6 week adjustments planned, could I wait until my next adjustment? Will it happen again, I read after searching that this is common?
P.s. This is part of a treatment plan that will involve surgery so this is all being done at the hospital, otherwise I would have a contact number and could ask the consultant.
No pain yet, but I guess that is to come tomorrow or is it because of the "ping's", I feel pressure though.

You should talk to RobotTeeth, the guy that posted just before you. It seems like you both had your braces installed and immediately popped two brackets. I've only popped 1 bracket so far, and that was about a year into treatment. I would try to get them reattached as soon as you can, else it might delay your treatment.

Brackets have popped off. Is it common? Sometimes. They tend to not want to stick to fillings and can pop off under lots of stress like when they are on a tooth that is very rotated or pushed into the mouth in comparison to the others alongside it. So if they are going to pop off, they tend to do it in the beginning of treatment rather then at the end.
You don't want to wait until your next adjustment to have them put back on. Call today. They will probably see you in the next few days.

Yes, "PING" is right! It's a unique sensation that I've had the misfortune of enjoying three times today, and has left me slightly paranoid...
I popped one drinking iced tea a few hours later, another one just sitting on the couch, and discovered a THIRD on the way back to the orthodontist!
I am very grateful that they were able to squeeze me in at the end of the day, A) Because I didn't want to wait one minute longer than I had to to get my new braces fixed, B) because I got them to trim my back wires shorter, which is saving me a lot of discomfort right now, C) they adjusted my molar buildup level, and D) they changed my ligature color to one I like a lot more.
I think if I had already had my braces for a few months and I popped a bracket, they'd have been a bit "lazier" about rushing me in to fix it, but I think they knew that I'm a reasonable dude who deserves decent customer service and to not have a bunch of problems on his very first day. I REALLY REALLY hope that they'll get back to you, MetalGear, and that they'll sort everything out right away, because I know exactly how you feel! The waiting has been the worst, and I don't want you to have to wait any longer to get situated!

That happened to me when i got mine too. I didn't even get to my house before one popped off. And then two days later another ones popped off too. I called them and they said it'll slide back and forth along the wire and bump into the other brackets but it won't be detrimental at all just be careful with it and they'll reglue it when i come in.

I was lucky the hospital, could book me in today and get it sorted so its back to being more uncomfortable like I expected. Though it was a palaver as my car was at the mechanics at the time and I had to get sorted out a courtesy car not to mention no more lunch breaks for the rest of the week to make up the hours.
Anyway, I think Robot Teeth, if one goes a whole series goes, so provided we can both avoid letting that first one go, the rest should stick. Three hours since the adjustment and so far so good, beat the last record of thirty minutes anyway.
Thank god this stuff is free (except fuel for the drive which is expensive £1.38 a litre ($7.00 a gallon?)). I do love the old NHS. I am not sure how some of you guys can do it, not just a pain in your mouth but a severe pain in your wallet too I wager!

Luckily that hasn't happened to me...knock on wood. I would not wait to fix it, that will delay your treatment. My ortho told me that if something happens a week before the next adjustment to just wait but if anytime prior to that to go in right away.

My story in this forum:

Braced: 4/7/2011
Metal Upper & Lower
Sentence: 18-24 months

That happened to me the first day i got braced!
I got home from the ortho.. took a nap (as teenagers do!)
woke up and i felt this weird POP in my mouth.. a bracket popped off my tooth. (but still spinning on the archwire) lol.
We rang the ortho and they never returned our call, so mum and I just drove straight back there and they took that bracket off. I didn't want it spinning around on the wire for days or weeks! It was so annoying!
It was because my tooth was one that was a bit far tilted or whatever.. next time he put it back on he didnt close the bracket and put an o-ring on it
