so ive had upper and lower ceramics for just over a week. im over the whole bashing my teeth thing but i seem to have developed another issue....a really bad lisp! i mean, i notice teeth have moved a little, and i have elastics on one side at the back, but why all of a sudden is my speech so silly?! i dont want to talk to anyone outside of the house now, i feel sooooo paranoid!
has anyone else had this problem with brackets? can you give me any advice? thank you in advance!

Yep I had that problem. It was like all of a sudden my tongue was too big...which doesn't make sense since the brackets are on your teeth.
But it does get better. I sang in the car and that helped teach my lips how to move around the brackets. It will work itself out, in the mean time try not to spit on people.

I'm with you...I have had a lisp since day one and on top of that I've developed a "whistle" when I say words with an "F" in them. I don't let it bother me though...people aren't stupid, they know it's happening because of the braces, have a good laugh and don't let it get to you.

I had a lisp at first too but it got better. Just from practicing speaking a lot, I guess. Went for my first adjustment to day and the assistant noticed I sounded much clearer in my speech. So just give it time, you should get used to it.

I had a terrible lisp when I got my palette expander put in. My 6 year old daughter and I laughed all the way home. My family, friends and myself have all had a hell of a good laugh about it too

When I would get excited and start talking fast, it was really enhanced. It will get better though! The more you talk, the better it gets.
