A few questions from a newbie

I have quite a severe underbite. Braces were put on, on the 1st of october 2009. I went to see my orthodontist last week and he put elastics on. However i've never seen anywhere on this site or other sites where my ortho put the elastics. He put a power button on the tooth inbetween the canine and first top molar, and the bottom last molar so the elastics are going from outside to inside instead of the usual outside ones i've seen... does anyone know why this has happend? Also my ortho decided he wanted to build up my canine teeth as they are quite small and pointy, does anyone know how this is done? Thankyou :)

I was a bit green on everything when i started too.

its kind of like a little brace behind my biscupid (had to look the name up) and the elastic is attatched to that, and then attatched to the bottom back second molar. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same done
