Anyone have brackets removed and repositioned mid-treatment?

I got a pretty unpleasant bit of news today. My ortho is planning to remove some of my brackets and reposition them at my next appointment. As fun as it was to have them put on originally, I'm really looking forward to this.
I'm also kinda wondering how this will actually happen. I have ceramic uppers, and I've heard the ceramic brackets are usually destroyed during removal.

Hi braceface2b,
Personally I haven't had any brackets repositioned, but I've heard that its just removing it then, then getting the glue off the tooth, then regluing the bracket. Orthos usually reposition brackets to straighten out roots... As for your ceramic brackets breaking, they will either be really careful not to, or maybe they will give you new brackets in case any of them break.
Hope that helps!

hi braceface2b,
this is a typical procedure. It happens to me all the time at my ortho appts. I also have ceramic braces and you are right, they totally break apart when taken off. It hurts a bit when they break it off (you'll feel pressure). Then they clean off your tooth and put glue back on with a new ceramic bracket. They need to do this to help your teeth move the way they want. It's not so bad, you will feel pressure on it later too because with a new bracket there is new movement, but don't worry, the procedure is typical.

Joy....yet another thing that I may have to experience? I'm thrilled. I learn something new here everyday. I'm seriously NOT looking forward to this little tactic...or elastics.
Can y'all tell I'm anti-braces today? lol

You know, for all the talk about them here, I can't complain about elastics too much. I've had class II elastics on both sides for about 3 months now. Once I learned how to put them in, they've pretty much been a breeze. I'll get occasional soreness on the upper canines they attach to, but nothing horrible.
I had been wearing them 24/7 on both sides, but as of my last trip to the ortho, I'm down to wearing them overnight on one side.

Hi. I have couple of my brackets removed and repositioned. I have ceramic also top and bottom. All they do is clip off the brackets, you will some pressure and sometimes it hurts depending on how sensitive is the tooth. They will completely replace that bracket with a new one. The reason for repositioning of the brackets is either your teeth straightened out and they want it to level with the rest of them or your teeth needs more movement. In my case my last repositioning needs to twist my tooth to the right direction to be straightened. Its not so bad. goodluck.
