I HATE BRACES

#1 Post by 38Illinois »

It's been a loooong year. I hate braces and I am so done with this experience. Before braces I thought the worst part would be the look of them. I was wrong, as this isn't an issue. The thing I hate is having sore teeth after adjustments and once they start feeling okay it is time for another adjustment. 6 - 8 more months of these isn't going to be easy. I want my life back.

How bad were your teeth? Did they have a long way to move?

I'm only 2 weeks in, but some people seem to experience a lot more discomfort than others. My main complaint is my molar buildups, because it makes eating so slow!

Sorry to hear you're so fed up. I wish I knew what to tell you, other than to give you the typical "It'll be worth it!".

Look at it this way: it's only 6-8 more months out of your entire life. Live to be 87 and that's .0077% of your life that sucks.
Not a bad trade off for straight teeth.
But honestly, I know how you feel. I spent 33 months in braces. Mine have been off for about a year now. Even though it really sucked, I'm very glad I put up with it.

I know exactly what you mean. Although my teeth aren't sore after about a week after the adjustment. Then it's just a pain because none of my teeth touch together and that seriously impedes eating. Not to mention all the foods I miss that we're not supposed to eat. I'm basically on a soft diet, at least until I can chew normally. My tongue and the roof of my mouth is basically what chews the foods I can actually eat.

BUT, to me it is ALL worth it, I've wanted straight teeth and a beautiful smile for sooooooo long!

I'm still too new at all of this to offer any real advice. Sorry to hear that you are struggling so much with your braces. Hopefully you can find some peace sooner rather than later.

I should clarify. I am not struggling to the point of depression. I am just done wearing them. Unfortunately I have experience discomfort on the higher side than the norm. I do not wish to discourage anyone else. I was just venting. Thanks.

I feel your pain! I have actually posted the similar topic, complaining how bad I feel and how my whole mouth was sore, but in about 2 weeks the soreness started to go away and now I can barely feel them. Everybody is different of course, too bad that soreness lasts so long for you.
But, as others mentioned, try to concentrate on the positive things. For example, how great your teeth will look once you are done with braces. This is very easy for me, my bite was all messed up when I got them due to TMJ problems, so I would actually take anything over what I had before... :-)
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.

I've had my braces on for 5 months..Wasn't too too bad before I started wearing my rubber bands like I should have been all along.

I have mine on for 1 year, 8 months. So, I have a looong way to go.
