Extraction gaps

I was diagnosed with an overbite/jet and had two upper, first pre-molars extractions before braces. After the initial alignment phase I've worn elastics for 16 weeks and while the overbite/jet has gone the extraction gaps still have another 3mm to close. I had an appointment today and was told to stop wearing elastics. How can the gaps close without the elastics? I have been wearing a small section of power chain (along with the elastics) which links the hooks on molar/canine, on both left/right sides. This power chain, or whatever it is, is always rather loose and doesn't wrap around any brackets - to me it seems like a waste of time because there's very little tension there.

I'm not suggesting that my ortho is wrong, just wondering how they tend to get around this kind of predicament - how to close extraction gaps once the overbite/jet has been resolved?.

Any input greatly appreciated

p.s. my ortho doesn't seem to have time for questions or general wonderings

There's more than one way to close gaps. Elastics, slip nots, springs, and this funny bend in my wire that I cannot recall it's name. Relax. You will be fine.

Trust your ortho and communicate with him/her no matter how "BUSY" you think he/she is. You are paying your money for good work and that includes proper communication.
