Debrace in stages??

#1 Post by Sandpiper »

Well, the good news is that my ortho is pleased with my progress, and at yesterday's adjustment he started talking about debracing for the first time! Yay! But he says he wants to debrace in stages, with a few weeks in between to let things settle down. In my naivety I had assumed that on some happy day I would go in with braces and come out without, but I guess it will be one set off at a time. So to all you lucky debraced people - was this your experience too? Thanks!

I don't know what that means, ie smaller wires, either top or bottom off first, no elastics or what? Mine was like you said in with and out without except for temporary retainer. Regardless it seems that you are close, very good and congrats.

We have, but very rarely, removed top or bottom braces before the other arch.

We have also removed anterior brackets and left some posterior brackets while waiting for second molars to erupt, or fully align. This would give our patient the appearance of being completely finished treatment, but allow us the ability to align the posterior teeth when possible.
