Please help

#1 Post by Daisy08 »

Getting braces was the worst thing that ever happened to me.

I hate the results. It is not to do with my teeth it is to do with the way my face shape has been changed. I used to have a heart shaped faced and now it is almost triangular. I hate the way it has moved my jaw.

Is there anything I can do about this Is there anyway I can go back to them and they can reverse it.

I feell ike I cant go on in my life looking life this it is the most horrible thing ever. I dont care if I sound shallow people dont understand how important oyur looks are until you dont have them anyone. I want to know if there is anyway this can be reversed. PLease help any help would be appreciated

I can tell you are very upset about your new look. Do other people in your life feel there has been an enormous change in your appearance? Is there someone close you can discuss this with openly and honestly?

My experience with braces so far is that no one notices them as much as I do - they are the first thing I see in the mirror, but several people didn't notice them until I said something.

Finally, you can always go to a plastic surgeon for an opinion. Most will not charge you for an initial consultation, and you might get a new perspective on your face shape.

You don't sound shallow at all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being concerned about the way you look. I think that is the main reason most of us adults are going through the journey of getting braces. Because we want to feel good about our smiles. If you don't like the way the braces are making you look you should really consider talking to your orthodontist about it. If money is not a huge concern you could consider a different treatment option. I also think the plastic surgeon consultation is a great idea as well. All in all you have to be happy with your results and the way you look.

The young lady where I bank said her ortho results after 3 years were worse than when she started...she is not doing any of the follow-up recommended, hoping that she will at least go back to where she started. And apparently it's starting to happen.

That being said, you have spent a ton of money. I would go back to the ortho and tell him/her that you are not satisfied with the result. It may not get you anywhere, but at least it's a start.

I'm 55, in braces, doing it mostly so I can go into being elderly with my own teeth--the better look is secondary but appreciated. I totally don't think you are being shallow when you are dissatisfied with the shape or look of your face. You will be looking at it for a long time--and you want to be happy with what you see!!

If the ortho isn't helpful, then at least ask him what he recommends as a next step--you surely cannot be the first person with this unhappy result....
