Why are my teeth getting worse?! SAD

I am only three weeks in, but why why why are my teeth getting worse since being braced? Gaps are getting bigger, not smaller and I hate it soooo much. I don't even want to open my mouth. So embarrassed. Is this normal? Ahhh!! I want my next archwire already!

Don't worry, those gaps are creating space for the teeth. And I hate to break it to you, but when you hear, your teeth will get worse before they get better, it really is true.

You're only 3 weeks in...don't worry about gaps. Worry about elastics, adjustments, sore teeth, mouth sores, wobbily teeth, the amount of floss and toothpaste you will have to buy... these things are so much more fun than gaps!

Sorry to hear your having a rough time... if it makes you feel any better for 4 weeks i watched my bottom teeth push forward like reverse buck teeth/underbite. i had massive gaps bewteen each tooth.

Things always get worse before they get better and sometimes teeth have to go way out of aliagnment beforet they can go where they are suppose to... When you are having a hard time just come to awchwired for some support.

teeth will move before you know it, but where your going is an imporvement on what you started with.

Yeah, I also got a gap between my upper incisor and the neighboring tooth (how is it called?).
It is not closing yet, but I am sure it will. Look at it this way: when you clean a messy house, there's going to be time when it will look even more messier than it was. But it will eventually get better. Hang in there.

I am going through this myself and it is true that things may look worse before they get better. Mine actually looked pretty good for the first 4-5 months, but got worse as they created space for my impacted permanent canine. Just chalk it up to being part of the process and trust that your ortho knows what he/she is doing. It will all get corrected in the end!

I wouldn't worry, its happened to me too! in the first 4 months my teeth were improving so much, now I have a gap in between my 2 front teeth, ortho assured me it will be closed in time, but it is annoying. It's not a sprint it's a marathon thats what i tell myself

Normal. I developed a totally open bite with my front teeth. It will all work out.

My teeth looked horrendous for about two months- it was awful. I wanted to cry every time I saw a picture of myself. It gets better, but in my case at least, it definitely got A LOT worse first.
