Today I met my maker...

#1 Post by buttercreme »

As promised, I'm sharing my experience about my first day in braces.

1. Woke up at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep, my nerves won the battle. I googled about braces and nerves. Fell asleep and immediately woke back up, with my stomach in knots.

2. Fast forward to the appointment (my son also had an appt. so he was in tow and shaking his head at me). We started a few minutes after 9 am....paperwork, records. pictures, x-rays....blah blah blah....

3. I watched Kung Fu Panda while Ruth dried my teeth and she seemed to be amazed at how clean my teeth are. The etchent had a strong smell as if I were at the nail shop, but other than that, there weren't any bad tastes, the application was smooth Dr. Noguchi is really good at this and plus they knew I was nervous, so his conversation with Ruth was a pleasant distraction.

4. Brackets on, wires in and wait, is that a powerchain? On my application day we are putting those powerchains in my mouth? My nerves were back up in overdrive, Kung Fu Panda wasn't that entertaining anymore...I felt pressure from the wires, pressure from the powerchains and next thing I knew I was getting a full on lesson about the Do's and Dont's of Ortho 101..

I don't need spacers, I have enough spaces as I'm getting braces to simply close my gaps. I've been taking Motrin 800 since early this morning before my appt and I took another one while I was waiting for my son. Went to the nail shop and got a manicure, El Pollo Loco for a large mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of water. Came home took a long shower, all of the Motrin is making me sleeeepppyyyyyy....Rinsed my mouth with Listerine and warm salt water, chapstick time in a few minutes and more Motrin at 5pm....

My plan is to beat the pain before the pain beats me....I will post an update later tonight or tomorrow after I go to my friend wine and chesse tasting for her birthday....I will be having wine and I'm not worried about the red staining my teeth one bit, I opted for metal simply because of my wine habit.

3 more posts to go before I can get a ticker....oh yeah, I only got the top done and won't be seeing the bottom until next year sometime....

09/15/2011 - first day with my new love of my life, divorcing in 18 - 23 months...

Congratulations!

Heating pads work well for pain. Especially from powerchains.

I'm feeling alright today. I stopped taking the motrin today, just so I can measure the amount of pain. So far it really isn't that bad like I thought it would be. I can deal with this better than I can the pain from a root canal. The 2 front teeth keep hitting while I'm talking and ouch ! I'm going back to my motrin and eating soft food...whoever said that they were eating normal at the very beginning, I envy thee.

Went to Trader Joe's got some applesauce, air puffed popcorn, pasta, plenty of liquids and I only want to eat certain things because I know that I can't. I want some fried fish and salad....

Thank you for the information about the heating pad....I'm doing well and I feel like I can feel one of my gaps being closed.....OMG
