Ortho: male or female?

#1 Post by ArchWired28 »

I have been thinking about it for a while. The wast majority of orthos happen to be males! That is very rare to see a female ortho, at least in my experience! Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong!
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.

OMG! I've noticed that too, it's not that there aren't female orthodontists it just that its almost like a 1 in 4 or 5 ratio....
Well, mine's a male but my best friend's ortho is a female.

At the moment, I have 2 ortho's. One's male and the other's female. The latter was the original ortho but she's in the process of retiring, so a new ortho was brought in and I guess he's trying to learn the ins and outs about the ortho office before he officially takes over.

Mine is also male.
But I've also noticed most older dentists are males, but as the younger generations mix in more females are coming in.

I don't know what the overall ratio is but I had consults with 4 orthos--two were male, two were female and I went with one of the women. (I also have a female dentist.)

I have a male ortho and dentist. Growing up I had a male dentist and noticed that all the dentists and ortho at that practice were male, while the assistants were all female. It also seemed like all my friends went to male dentists/orthos as well. The current practice that I go to has a pretty good balance. According to their website they have 10 male and 8 female dentists/orthos.
