Mother and son doing braces together
Hi everyone! I'm a 39 y.o. mother doing braces for the first time with my 12 y.o. son! I got my full braces on yesterday (ceramic on the upper and lower) and he just got his uppers (metal). Neither of us had any real pain yesterday and so far today nothing either. My bottom lip is a little scratched but nothing major. I'm not sure I made the right choice by getting ceramics because they seem so much bulkier than my son's metal. I hope I get used to them and not regret my decision. They seem to make my teeth look big and like I have huge spaces between them. I guess it's something I just have to get used to. Eating with them is also something I have to learn to do. And I feel like I'm talking different and my mouth looks different with them. Just this morning I was talking to my boss and he asked me what was in my mouth and then said oh did get your braces? He knew I was getting them. Then asked how it felt to be a teenager again. I didn't know how to take that question. Oh well, whatever.

Congratulations to you both. My son and I have braces too. He is 15. He got his a year before I did. You will get used to the ceramic brackets. Get lots of wax because they will irritate your cheeks at thimes.

I am using the Inman Aligner (end of first TWO DAYS).44AndWired wrote:Congratulations to you both. My son and I have braces too. He is 15. He got his a year before I did. You will get used to the ceramic brackets. Get lots of wax because they will irritate your cheeks at thimes.
Yes, the wire brackets where they are anchored to my molars are quite irritated. I did get wax and am taking pain killers--it has helped today. Hoping things will improve with time.

How goes the progress?
It's been 18 days into the program of the Inman Aligner for me and a couple of my teeth have already moved! Yahoo!
