Chapped Lips

#1 Post by Roboto »

I normally tend to get chapped lips when the weather cools down, but this year they feel so bad! I'm sure it's from the extra brushing, but I put vaseline on at night, wear my Burt's Bees throughout the day, and drink drink drink (mostly water  ).

Does anyone have any tricks or tips for how to keep lips moist? and/or suggestions for healing them once they're chapped?

Thanks!

Oh my gosh- I can relate. I have noticed my lips are really chapped lately, I think because I have been wearing lip gloss. I have been using vaseline but it doesn't last very long.

I did some research on this today, Bert's Bee's lip stuff is supposed to be good. Wait, you are using BB...what do you think of it? I also read something about a brand that starts with an A, but can't remember the name.

I am right there with you both. I have severe chapped lips to the point of cracking and bleeding. I asked my doctor and he suggested using neosporin and alternate with Vitamin E oil and it has worked great. I put the neosporin on at bed and at least 4-5 more times a day. I use the E oil 3-4 times a day and also use chapstick. hope this helps.

I just bought Burt's Bees Medicated Lip Balm with Eucalyptus Oil. The package said it is "New." I tried it and like it so far. The active ingredient is Menthol (1.0%). I put it on and soothing relief was upon me...kind of like eating a York peppermint patty! :)

I had (and still have periodically) the same problem. Thanks to some really helpful answers from people on this forum, I started using Blistex Intense Moisturiser which is brilliant. Much better than Vaseline, which gets messy. Someone also recommended Aquaphor which I've bought but haven't needed to use yet.

Good luck....

Thank you all for the suggestions!

@Snowglobe- I really like BB because I like the tingle. It makes me feel like the stuff is working. The medicated kind that you brought up sounds really good! I'll have to remember to keep an eye out for it next time I'm out.

@Chaplains Assistant- I don't know why neosporin never occurred to me! I put put some on overnight and there was a drastic difference by morning. I've been putting it on throughout the day. I'm still a little chapped, but muuuuch better.

@sibilla- A friend of mine was just telling me how much she likes Blistex Intense Moisturizer.. I'll have to find some to add to my growing stash of chapstick.

Thanks!

Yes Aquaphor is fantastic on the lips overnight. An added treatment is when you're done brushing your teeth, and your lips are still moist brush them gently with the toothbrush to get all the dry skin off. Then put whichever item you prefer for night wear on, that really helps it soak in. My daughter gets really bad cracks in her bottom lip from biting when she's nervous, and the Aquaphor heals it over night. I did read that there's a stick version of it for the lips, but no one thought it was as good as the original in the round container.

Ouch, my braces haven't been on long but I can relate too. :( I've always had dry, chapped lips, even before braces, and they've only been getting worse.
As others have said, Burt's Bees is a LIFESAVER! I also exfoliate my lips with my toothbrush (not sure if lip exfoliation is good while wearing braces, especially since the dryness is DUE to extra brushing) and promptly apply vaseline/BB Lip balm... it's helped me a lot so far. Good luck, hope your lips are feeling better!

Yep Waffle is a Boston, but he's bulky and square like a French bulldog....and he snorts like a pig. We have another Boston and he has the typical looks, so they're complete opposites. Fun little dogs.

I don't know if exfoliating the lips is bad for them, but it does feel good and keeps them feeling soft for a day or two.
