On home stretch to debanding yet spaces opening/excess spit

#1 Post by dabrit »

Hi,

I have now had braces for 3 years, and in 2 months my braces come off apparently. I've been through 2 surgeries one rapid palatal expansion surgery and the other Lefort I on upper jaw to fix a massive open bite.

I was in suresmile wires for a while, but the past two times I have gone they have put me in a heat straight wire not really sure why. The last time I went in they put in another heat wire and told me to wear the zig zag elastic on just the right side at night. Ever since I went in a couple weeks ago I've been getting a ton of spit building up in my mouth as well as bubbles and I'm really not sure why reminds me of the first week or so after jaw surgery so annoying, also my tongue just won't relax and it's like it's trying to find somewhere to sit comfortably which in turn makes me worry about tongue thrusting which may have caused my open bite to begin with.

Also since going in last time I'm starting to get little spaces in my upper teeth, this seems weird this late into treatment??

Is this all normal and just part of the process???

Hey, do they have you on powerchains to keep the gaps closed? maybe you could talk about that to the ortho. But as far as a lot of spit in your mouth that is definatly normal and only happens for me with elastics optherwise im fine. You could always wait and see in two months and if there is still a problem with the gaps you have the right as the paying customer to say look I want the braces on just a little longer to see if these gaps will close. Also don't forget that after braces comes the retainer. Those help a great deal also.

Yeah I have the chain elastic on, I went to see my orthodontist today and he said there isn't really anything they can do he said due to the shape of my teeth and the fact that they are straight and already touching, it would be impossible to close the gap near the top of the two front teeth, as well as on either side where i have the dreaded black triangles. He said that in kids their gums fill in this space but in adults often this doesn't happen, he said perhaps a periodontal specialist might be able to help. My guess is I'll end up getting veneers at some point to fill in the spaces, which is ok I guess. I'd rather have a fully functional bite with straight teeth than what I had before which was unbearable, although I fully regret allowing my surgeon to talk me into Genioplasty, as my face is still not back to normal 8 months on from the surgery, my lips don't close together without straining, I get twitching in my chin and it's so stiff, also believe this is putting strain on my jaw and in turn causing my tongue to not relax.
