Gummy smile

Has anyone here had a gummy smile and did braces help to reduce the gumminess? My ortho said it could help mine some but it make take a periodontist to completely get rid of it. I would appreciate some feedback to see what others have done.

I guess it depends on what is causing the gumminess. If you have gingival overgrowth (I forget the technical term), a perio should indeed be able to trim it back with a simple, inexpensive, gingivectomy.

I have a gummy smile, but I don't think braces will improve it. It would take surgery.. and I don't care enough about it to fix it. I've had it all my life...
