Hi Again everyone :3
I haven't posted here for a week or 2, and feel kind of bad. You guys are all so nice and helpful, and accepting of the fact that im still in highschool XD..been kinda busy studying for exams >.< Anyways, back to the joys of ortho..Had just a checkup today, since my family leaves for dominican on friday. Ortho was NOT happy that i had swallowed my turbos, and gave me a lecture about how I should be more profesional and come in as SOON as I swallowed them.Mhmm, because i can definitly contact her when its friday night and the office closes for the weekend. Luckily, I don't ahve to get the turbos on again until after we get back from vacation, otherwise it would've been a miserable week anda half..but still. I don't know where the ortho gets off bein such a b*tch. She wasn't even professional, just grumpy, and plain mean. She said i should be more mature, and know better than to "hide" my swallowed turbos. AGAIN, its HER office that closes for the weekend. Ughh. I dislike her alot. Anyways, anyone who reads this, hope all is well in your world of being a braceface :D

I'm sorry Nikk that you have to put up with that kind of boloney....I am so sick of the dentists and orthos and their assistants who talk down to young people as if every last one is dumb and irresponsible. Believe me, they do it to adults too, but it is far more difficult to get away with it. Anyway, that is why there is such rampant dental fear among adults--stemming from when they were young. (See the website "dental fear central" )...

So, pooh on her---now you don't have to have turbos on your vacation!!--great job!  :-* And now at least you know what it's all about when you do have them. So forget about little miss grumpy pants, and have a great vacation!!! (I am sooo jealous!)

If you had called the ortho's office on Friday night, you could have left a message. I've had to do that before. At least then the ortho would have known right away that your turbos were off and could have had you in sooner, so I can kind of see why she might have been a little annoyed that you didn't try to call. Just because the office closes for the weekend doesn't mean your ortho doesn't check messages.. but now you know! So if anything happens again, you can keep yourself out of trouble lol.

Unfortunately, the longer you wait, the more you slow down your own progress and add to your time in braces. So it's nice that you won't have your turbos on vacation, but you might have prolonged your sentence. :/

If it was me, leaving a message when they close had not crossed my mind. When I need my dentist I always wait for them to open, calling in the first thing in the morning. I like to talk to a person when I call

But I do understand your ortho’s frustration. She probably has many young and adults who don’t care too much for their braces, which gives her extra work. And everything of those strange things they put in our mouth are there for a reason and if one of them is not doing its job a lot of things can go wrong, messing up the bit even more. So it’s important to let your ortho know soon as possible  .
Being new to braces is not easy; to know when to call and not to call, to do and not to do… And giving you a lecture the first time you did something wrong seems a bit harsh, there is many better ways to explain the seriousness of the matter. If you have continued to do it, that would be another matter

Don’t let your grumpy ortho ruin your vacation!

p.s I think many of us have misbehaved a bit in braces. I must be the record on this site! One week with braces and I ate a hard caramel so my arch wire popped out. My ortho did not suspect me at all so I got away with it  8) . Won’t do it again though

WOW what a grump!! She could have said the same thing a different way, seeing it was your first problem.

I LOVE MY ortho and his staff so far, they are so nice and friendly but my dentist is a different story, everyone is grumpy in there and obviously hate their jobs. My dentist was a B&TCH, when she realized I went to a different ortho then the one they recommended. UGhhhhhhhh I am not looking forward to going back there, I need to find a new dentist, I don't trust an office that is that grumpy. I always feel like dentists are trying to rip you off or suck the life out of your insurance company for every single penny they can.

Good luck, if they want to know sooner about problems then call them asap next time and leave a message or email. They will probably tell you its not an emergency and to wait LOL but at least you let them know. Have a great vacation!!!
