Got my braces on today! Will these bite turbos get easier?

#1 Post by tinkc »

I got my braces put on this morning!!

I have Damon brackets. Top are clear and bottom are metal. Really no problems right now. I have two bite turbos behind my top 2 front teeth that are annoying the heck out of me! I have a horrible lisp with these things and I think it's making eating even more difficult. I'm praying these things are off sooner than later. Can anyone give me some tips on how to deal with these bite turbos? If it wasn't for them, I really would have no complaints.

You'll get used to them in a few weeks, and they will bother you a lot less. Thankfully, you'll have them on only as long as you need them.

As annoying as bite turbos are, they do a lot of good things during treatment like keeping you from biting off brackets, unlocking your bite to make treatment faster, and helping to shape your smile, your orthodontist has probably explained all that to you already.

I'm going to have turbos too. I already have a lisp. This should be fun! :)

Bite Turbos are just pieces of plastic that are stuck onto your teeth to open up your bite. They are most commonly used to keep you from biting on your braces. Since you already have braces on your bottom teeth, you probably won't get them.

Got full ceramics on two days ago. Fortunately, didn't get bite turbos or anything to keep from chewing only on my brackets. Unfortunately, can't chew. Luckily, no pain yet whatsoever.

I wonder if I would be better off with bite turbos???

I doubt it, they are so annoying. I'm really hating talking to anyone because of how bad my lisp is with the bite turbos. It's bad enough when people are staring at your mouth trying to see your braces, then you draw that much more attention to yourself with the lisp.

Well if you can't chew you won't bite your brackets off ;)

I can't comment on if you'd be better off with bite turbos. They need to go on with a specific purpose (if they will speed treatment, prevent debonds, help develop a smile arc, etc.).

freysmiles: I can chew, but only the upper incisors on the lower incisor brackets, so I can chew them off. Also afraid I may chip my upper incisors.

Yea you might want to have your orthodontist put on some turbos. The material in the clear brackets is much much harder than your teeth, and will wear them down if you are chewing on the clear braces. To be diplomatic just mention to your orthodontist that you don't like chewing on the brackets and ask them if they can put something on your teeth to open your bite.
